City Dwelling: Workshops & Maker Spaces
My office is working on a new project. It’s like gym, but with tools instead of treadmills. We’ll have all the equipment—be it planers, joiners, welders—and you pay a membership fee to use the tools to make your dream project a reality. We will offer classes, meet-ups, and generally endeavor to connect the creative community. We have a feeling that there is a need for a network of this kind in Birmingham and we’re going to try our best to provide it. We’ve got good examples to follow too! 3rd Ward, in Brooklyn, has been offering just such a facility for the last seven years. ADX, in Portland, has been up and running for going on two. So why not Birmingham? In 2013, we will join the other players in our pursuit for a more savvy, united, and inspired creative culture. Why not.
So the last month or so has been filled with tours of warehouse spaces in the quest for a home for our project. We’re closing in, but meanwhile had the opportunity to view some awesome spaces. The quality of light in older buildings never ceases to amaze…
Join us, if you can. There’s an interview on the Magic City Post here. Connect on our Facebook page and take our survey here. We’re still building, so there’s still a chance for any and everyone to voice their opinion and have a say in what this place could be. So pitch in, we’re all ears.
