City Dwelling: More Avondale Love!

Could the positive momentum behind development in Avondale get any stronger? I could bubble over with all the good things that are happening in this area. Finally! This neighborhood has such a fun, quirky vibe that it’s about time it got some love.

Last Thursday saw the announcement of the “Occupy Avondale” winners, a contest that gave 6 months free rent to a business that proved it was both viable and would complement the neighborhood. After a rigorous application and interview process, winners were finally selected.

Since my boss was one of the judges, we got to be a part of the announcement at Avondale Brewery, where camera crews and Avondale supporters waited to hear who the lucky business would be. At 6:30, Coby and Hunter Lake (of Avondale Brewery) and Elizabeth Barbaree-Tasker (of Mainstreet Birmingham) announced that our new neighbors would be Freshfully, an online marketplace for local food! Their new space would give them a retail location for all the services they normally provide online. We (Standard Creative) could not be more excited!  We will actually get to walk down to the corner building and get to do all of our grocery shopping, all the while supporting local famers and purveyors and getting fresh goods. After the initial trials and tribulations of starting out in this neighborhood, we cannot believe our luck!
